Laptop Lifestyle models that have worked for me

I have been making a full-time living online since 1996. During that time, I have found many laptop lifestyle models that worked for me. I have also found some which have worked but are simply too much effort. Examples here would be looking for products on Amazon and eBay. Sometimes there is a huge price difference of, say, thirty percent. So I bought from the cheapest, sold on the dearest, and shipped them directly from the shipper to the buyer. I have also found things have bombed, and the least said about those, the better. (I was young and foolish).

Creating and Selling Information Products.

This is out and out my favorite strategy and one I often use when I want to generate a quick buck.

QTypically, we’re talking about information products designed to help people solve a problem, achieve a goal, or explore or enjoy an interest.

In other words… You create and sell information products (based on your own experience, knowledge, skills, and interest) that help to solve other people’s problems. Every profit online will ultimately come from serving others, ie, helping them achieve their goals.

These information products can be sold in various formats, including eBooks, courses, videos, audio, membership sites, and tools (such as checklists, worksheets, planners, cheat sheets, and templates). This is not necessarily an inclusive list but merely a list of the items I have created in the past.

NOTE: Selling fiction books is also a viable way to make money. You can sell Kindle books, hard copy books on Amazon, and similar. However, that is not something I am familiar with, so it is outside the scope of this article. Because of that limitation, I am concentrating on my area of expertise, which is nonfiction info products. 

1.1.Research is the First Thing You Must Do, Don’t just launch!

Find out What’s Popular & Profitable 

One of the first things you’ll need to do is market research. This will tell you whether your product will be likely to sell. For instance, if you write a short report and entitle it “How to Care for Aspidistras.”, I can pretty much guarantee you won’t sell a single copy unless, of course, you get an Arabic or Russian native, someone whose native language involves different alphabet land on your page.

Does that mean no one is interested in aspidistras?

Not necessarily. It may be just an issue of branding.

What is an aspidistra?

Aspidistra elatior, commonly called cast iron plant for its ability to survive significant cultural abuse, is native to China and Japan. It is an easily-maintained, stemless, evergreen foliage plant that typically grows to 3′ tall.

First, you figure out what your customers want. It is an evergreen plant that keeps its leaves all year. If you expand your idea to “caring for houseplants” or even “caring for evergreen plants.”, it is more likely to have legs.

1.2 How to Do the initial Market Research

First of all, there is a series of books called the Dummy books. Dummy books are only published if there is a lot of demand. So if you find your topic listed here, you are good to go. They also have a section on trending topics that will give you some great pointers. Have a look at local book stands. If a printed book is available, it is also good to go, these publications make money, or they wouldn’t be published.

It may well be that your book is much more specific, such as ” Tips and tricks o how to pass SAT exams.” First of all, I know nothing about the SAT exams. They don’t exist in Europe, where I was educated. A little research revealed that 2.2 million sat these exams in 2020. I would say that is enough of a target audience for me.

Of course, there is a caveat here don’t produce an info product on SAT exams unless you are a teacher. At the very least, you aced them yourself and recently. If it is the second option, market the report from a student’s point of view.

In summary, the research aims to see if people are likely to want to buy your product. I imagine nothing is more soul-destroying than writing a book and getting no sales. Fortunately, it has never happened to me because I have always done meticulous research. Before I write a word, I have ascertained it is a very popular topic. Or at the very least, there is a market out there for it.

1.3 How Are you going to deliver it?

 Designing A Sales Funnel 

You don’t want to build a successful business from a single product or service. This is why you need to develop a funnel.

A sales funnel is the journey from not buying your product to being a loyal customer. Then, you turn them into repeat customers. The funnel starts with people finding your website, then becoming aware of your brand, and finally purchasing your product or service.

In short, it’s a carefully planned path that leads to the sale of products. It incorporates a few elements that guide the customer from one purchase to another.

1.5 Expanding Your Sales Funnel

We have discussed the basic minimum requirements for a sales funnel in the preceding paragraph. Once that has been built, and you start making a trickle of sales, you will want to market it and get leads.

The next step is to:

• Create a lead magnet
• Write an email sequence
• Add a tripwire product.

A sales funnel can be much more complex than this, but for now, I do not want to overwhelm you.

A lead agent is something unique to you, a quality product you are prepared to give away. It can be a tutorial, a podcast, an audio interview, a pdf, or a video, amongst other things. It is essentially a bribe. You trade a free gift for their email. In practice, it is building a list, which is my second favorite laptop lifestyle model that have worked for me. You will guide your readers toward being loyal customer stage of this process. The flip side is that you are giving your customers greater value. This works across the board in all niches.

2. List Building

I love list-building. It is a fun process and hugely profitable. Most of you will have heard the expression the money is in the list. Technically this statement is not untrue, but it is not the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. More accurately, the money is in your relationship with your list. In my humble opinion, a list is the best tool for building a relationship where your customer likes and trusts you. I once knew a lady in the UK who, in the late nineties, worked in the embroidery niche. It is an evergreen nice but nowhere near the big niches. Anyway, she had a list of 120 people, and she sent her list a newsletter every week. Every week at least 80 people bought either one of her products to something she recommended. That is an awesome result.

3. affiliate Marketing

This is my third favorite Laptop Lifestyle models that have worked for me. it is a natural extension of one and two.

You probably use websites monetized with affiliate marketing all the time, without realizing you are doing so. At the moment, the industry is worth $12 billion, and the prediction is it will grow by at least ten percent in the coming years.

Part of the reason for it’s popularity is it is cheap and easy to set up. You don’t need a product. You promote other people’s products for a commission.

3.1 What is affiliate Marketing

Affiliates recommend a product by using a specific link given by the vendor. This link tracks the sales. When a sale is made the affiliate gets a commission. Job done…. very nicely, thank you.

Because it is so easy to set up, it is the perfect side hustle for your own info products. Of course, it is a second fiddle income, but that doesn’t mean you can’t earn $50k a year. In truth, there is no limit. It is a perfectly scaleable model.

3.2. Why be an affiliate marketer?

They work for me and have done so for over twenty years. They all build on each other. Build your Product, create your list from your product, and then add to your list as an affiliate marketer. Use the same or different lead magnets and promote and prioritize your list. The larger it gets, the more money you make as an affiliate. Don’t do them all at once. Start with affiliate marketing or creating your own product and master that skill. Then start list building. These Skills will help you build a sustainable business that will only grow with time.
